Augusta is the second oldest city in Georgia and home to the state’s oldest standing synagogue—adjacent to the current museum. The Augusta Jewish Museum facilitates an understanding and appreciation for the people, ideas, places, and events that have shaped Augusta and the surrounding region’s rich Jewish history. The museum is a center for learning, reflection, and fun. Recently installed exhibits focus on local businesses and civic organizations; religious and culinary traditions; and important links to the state of Israel and to World War II and the Holocaust. Stories are told through a combination of graphic panels, objects, and a timeline of local Jewish history. The museum also serves as a venue for meetings, gatherings, and school groups.
